Page rank or more accurately "PageRank" can be a great mystery to many of us but why and how do we achieve it? Not every website has a PageRank but why not? And why should it be expressed as "PageRank" and not "page rank"?
Well, let's look at the last question first. It's called "Pagerank" not because it has to do with web pages but because the concept was invented by a man named Page. Actually, he's Lawrence Edward Page who was born in Lansing, Michigan in 1973 and just happens to be one of the co-founders of Google.
So, now let's look at the second question, working back through my first paragraph. Working backwards is alright. We'll still get to the point, eventually. The short answer, though one we shall be discussing at greater length in a later article in this series of articles about PageRank, is that they haven't done enough to deserve it.
Right, let's go back to the first question. Why do we need it? A lot of experienced people will tell you that it doesn't really matter and that is almost certainly true for less competitive keywords and phrases. However, if you're working in a more highly contested area, PageRank is of much greater importance and that will also be discussed in a later article.
The most important thing really, is how to achieve a high PageRank on a scale from one to ten where ten is almost impossible. A PageRank of five is reckoned to be a pretty good achievement for the average webmaster and therefore, a worthy target. We shall be discussing in later articles in the series how to get to PageRank 5 in just 90 days or less.
