It's easy to create your very own successful Twitter business as long as you follow a few simple rules:
1. Customize your profile! Remember first impressions last and this is the first thing potential customers or followers will see. It needs to have a nice warm photo of yourself or business, an interesting short and concise bio, a suitable background (please don't leave the default one!) and a link if you have one to your website, blog etc.
2. Add relevant targeted followers. Don't just try and get as many followers as possible because you think it will be beneficial. Search for people in your niche and follow them, chances are they will be interested in what you have to offer and will follow you back. Remember when creating a successful Twitter business it's better to have a few interested followers you can build relationships with than thousands who you are wasting your time on.
3. Engage your followers. This is easily the most important thing to remember when building your successful Twitter business. Start conversations with your followers, ask them questions, find an interesting topic and talk to them. Answer other people's questions and help them out. People love dealing with other people the more human and genuine you are the better.
4. Be Active. There is a fine line between being active and spamming! Make sure you are tweeting regularly enough so you are contributing and staying connected with your followers. A good rule of thumb is no more than 1 - 2 tweets an hour. And make sure you spread them out, you can use 3rd party twitter tools to schedule tweets which works well.
5. DON'T JUST SELL! If you want your successful Twitter business to crash before it even takes off that's the way to go about it! Make sure the majority of your general tweets are relevant and engaging. You should only be tweeting a product or sales link to your followers about every 20 - 50 tweets. Simply put no more than 5% of all tweets should be sales related.
6. Retweet other people's stuff. This is a great way to build rapport with your followers and they will love you for it! Make sure it's good content and don't just do it for the sake of it. If you do this other people will likely return the favor and retweet your content which their followers will see and may retweet and you can begin to see how it can snowball!
7. Provide Value. Use great links, blogs, quotes, videos anything you can find. Variety is the spice of life and the same boring yet relevant content can become stale fast. Make sure it's up to date and keeps your followers interested. If you don't like it then they probably won't either!
8. Be Funny. People love to laugh and it is always memorable. If you see something or find something funny share it on Twitter, even if it doesn't quite relate to your business your followers will still appreciate it.
9. Don't use direct messages to Market. People hate automated DMs from new followers. Most people have even given up reading their DMs and delete them straight away. Instead be more personal, ask people if they might be interested in a subject or link first by DM so you're not just shoving it down their throat! Build relationships first, look for people on Twitter search talking about a subject you have information or a product about that can help them and share it with them.
10. The 3 P's. Plan, Passion and Persistence! The best way to keep track of any business progress is with a plan. Set goals, and continue building your successful twitter business. Without passion for what you're doing you will not last the distance, choose products and niches you are passionate about that way you will have more fun and it won't seem like work. Persistence is key, you will never see your success come to fruition if you don't stick at it, try new things if something isn't working and eventually all your hard work will be rewarded!
Just don't forget the most important thing to remember with a successful Twitter business is that you are engaging and providing value to your followers. If it isn't of value to them then it won't create any value for you!
